Toledo, Ohio Facility

Since December 1989 N-Viro International Corporation has operated the City of Toledo's N-Viro Process facility, which is located between a golf course and two popular marinas. The N-Viro facility treats approximately 150 wet tons per day, or approximately 40,000 tons annually, of anaerobically digested sludge. N-Viro treats the City's sludge and converts the material to a licensed aglime, N-Viro Soil™ (NVS), that is sold to area farmers. The operators use a variety of alkaline admixtures in the process including lime kiln dust and fluidized bed ash from area power generators.

In 1985, the City began looking for alternative methods for sludge management since land application was not a viable solution. In 1986, they co-sponsored a pilot/research project with the Medical College of Ohio and N-Viro International to include the use of the N-Viro AASSAD process to stabilize wastewater solids. Following the successful pilot project, the City signed a five year contract with N-Viro to produce the Class "A", EQS product N-Viro Soil, and then renewed the contract through the year 2000. Recently the contract with the City was again extended through the year 2009.

N-Viro has been successfully produced and marketed for over 15 years, providing material to area farmers and to the horticultural community. The City of Toledo has used N-Viro products in City projects including a combination of chipped Christmas trees and NVS, "N-Viro Pine," that was used as a daily and intermediate cover material at the City owned landfill. The N-Viro Soil product has also been used by the University of Toledo and by the Toledo Botanical Gardens, and is blended with other materials to make commercial bulk and bagged topsoil.

N-Viro is proud of their long-standing relationship with the City of Toledo. The Toledo facility continues to be the flagship of N-Viro facilities around the world.
